What remains when production bottlenecks disappear is filtering through five criteria.

Robert Burko, CEO of digital marketing agency Elite Digital, says that after nearly 25 years in this business, the biggest constraint has always been ‘the production itself.’ Before, every step from brief, concept, copy, design, landing page, media planning, approval, to reporting setup required hands-on work. To see five decent directions took that much time, and to get 50 variations meant spending more budget, extending timelines, or burning through the team. AI changed this almost overnight.

But a different problem emerged. An e-commerce client wanted to create a promotion that didn’t look like just a discount message, so they quickly generated multiple directions with AI. They got conversion-focused concepts, brand-weighted concepts, and concepts that would perform well on paid social all at once. The problem came next. The client and media team each pushed different concepts, while the creative team worried that another concept was too similar to what was commonly seen in this category. The conclusion came only after shifting the discussion from preference to business objectives.

The decision speed Burko describes isn’t about rushing; it’s about closing the gap between the moment you notice something and the moment you move with confidence. Before seeing options, it’s about deciding what matters most—conversion, brand differentiation, launch speed, or learning—and determining who decides. He identified five criteria: Does it align with business goals? Does it address the customer’s actual needs or pain points? Is it something only this brand can say? Is there evidence to back it up? Can we learn something by taking it to market?

Soulpapa’s perspective: If only the front end speeds up while approval processes stay the same, output comes quickly but sits unused. Teams that predetermine decision criteria pull ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

When AI generates multiple creative concepts simultaneously, what problems actually occur in practice?

As concepts multiply, stakeholders’ preferences diverge, and decision-making actually slows. As in the e-commerce example in the article, the client, media team, and creative team each backed different concepts, failing to reach agreement.

Now that production speed has accelerated, what capabilities does a marketing team really need?

Now, ‘decision-making speed’—the ability to judge which option to choose from many alternatives—is becoming the bottleneck, not the ability to produce content quickly. The ability to filter concepts through five criteria—conversion, brand fit, category differentiation, and more—is emerging as the core competency.
